5 top tips for wearing makeup with Rosacea

1

Your routine and products are important

Keep your routine simple by using as few products as possible. Rosacea skin is sensitive, so it’s important to avoid products containing allergens, fragrances, and formaldehyde-releasing agents as these could all trigger flare ups.
Look out for products that contain redness reducing ingredients such as Vitamin E and beta-thujaplicin. Riversol’s redness control trio is packed with these and other soothing ingredients. They make a good first, calming step in prepping your skin before makeup.

2

Choosing the right type of foundation

Choosing a foundation that compliments you and doesn't enhance your flushed face, can be difficult so we recommend one with a green tint. Bonus points if it contains sunscreen. Green hues can help reduce the appearance of redness.
Also, oil free foundations are the go-to here, and make sure you’re applying with a brush rather than a sponge. Sponges are difficult to clean and often harbour irritating bacteria.

3

Select gentle types of makeup

Mineral makeup is often a good choice for redness-prone skin because its ingredients are often non-irritating. If your eyes suffer from Rosacea symptoms then look for ‘ophthalmologist tested’, allergy tested, and fragrance-free products when it comes to eye makeup.

4

Choose a neutral colour for you lips

If you choose red shades of lipstick, it can make your skin appear even more flushed. That’s why a more neutral colour may work better for you. It can help make your skin appear less red or flushed.

5

Always use clean tools, never your fingers

Just as important as the type of foundation you use is its application. Since the skin on your face is extra sensitive, remember to treat it as such when putting on makeup. Use a clean foundation brush and dab a small amount lightly around the affected areas—and try never to use your fingers!
